About Castlefreke
Castlefreke sits at the eastern end of Long Strand - depending on who you talk to it's either part of the same beach or a slightly separate spot. The Castlefreke section is more sheltered, more dune-backed and a touch friendlier than the exposed western end of Long Strand.
Works on the same S to SW swells as its neighbours, with N offshore winds. Mid tide is best. The dunes behind the beach are part of Castlefreke estate; the beach itself is public and you can walk to it via the trails from the Castlefreke car park.
Hazards & Notes
- Rip current on bigger swells
- No lifeguards · be self-sufficient
- Dune erosion is fragile - stick to marked paths
- Cold water outside high summer
