About Tramore
Tramore is the south coast's surf hub - a long, sandy south-facing beach in Tramore Bay, just south of Waterford city. It faces a completely different swell window than the Atlantic spots on the west coast: it picks up S to SE swell from storms crossing the Celtic Sea and works on N offshores, often the day after west-coast spots have shut down.
Multiple peaks line up along the bay; the surfable section sits roughly in the middle. Tramore town has a full surf scene - schools, board hire, shops and a long promenade - and gets busy on summer weekends. Wind farms are visible offshore.
Hazards & Notes
- Rip current at the river end of the beach on bigger swells
- Busy with swimmers and bodyboarders in summer
- South-facing - mostly flat when the Atlantic is firing on the west
- Cold water · proper wetsuit needed outside high summer
