About Fanore
Fanore is a long, sandy west-facing beach on the Burren coast of north Clare, framed by the bare limestone hills that give the Burren its lunar character. It catches plenty of Atlantic swell and is one of the more reliable surf spots between Doolin and Galway.
The beach works on W to NW swells with E offshore winds. Multiple peaks shift along the strand with the tide and swell. It's quieter than the busier Lahinch lineup down the coast, and the scenery is some of the best on the Wild Atlantic Way. Surf school in season; otherwise self-sufficient.
Hazards & Notes
- Rips between sand bars on bigger swells
- Exposed beach - wind builds quickly off the Burren
- Limited facilities in the village
- Cold water year-round
