About Spanish Point
Spanish Point sits about 20 km south of Lahinch on the Clare coast, just north of Miltown Malbay. It's a long west-facing strand with multiple peaks on the beach, and a reef break at the south end (sometimes called the Spanish Point Reef) that comes alive on bigger groundswells.
The break shares Lahinch's swell window - W to NW with E offshore - but is consistently less crowded. On a day with everyone in Lahinch, Spanish Point often gives you the same wave with half the crew. Several surf schools operate from town.
Hazards & Notes
- Rocks at the south end - watch where you paddle out / exit
- Rip current toward the pier on bigger days
- Cold water year-round
- Some seaweed in the inside section in late summer
