About Pollan Bay
Pollan Bay is a long, north-facing beach on the Inishowen peninsula, near Ballyliffin in north Donegal. Inishowen is one of the most remote and least surfed corners of Ireland - if you're looking for an empty Atlantic beach, this is the kind of spot you'll find.
The bay catches W to N swells and works on S offshore winds. Multiple peaks shift along the strand. Mid tide is best. The Ballyliffin golf course sits behind the dunes; the village has accommodation and food but no major surf infrastructure.
Hazards & Notes
- Remote · self-sufficient surfing
- Rips between sand bars on bigger swells
- Exposed - wind builds quickly
- Cold North Atlantic water · brutal in winter
