About Rosapenna
Rosapenna is a north-facing beach in Sheephaven Bay, north Donegal - near Marble Hill and Downings. The Rosapenna golf course (one of Ireland's oldest) sits behind the dunes, but the beach itself is open, exposed and catches plenty of swell.
The beach works on NW swells with SE offshore winds. Mid tide is best. It's less sheltered than Marble Hill and handles size better - useful when the bay is too small for the headline spots in the area.
Hazards & Notes
- Rips between sand bars on bigger swells
- Exposed - wind builds quickly
- Watch for golfers on the path back from the beach
- Cold North Atlantic water year-round
