About Inch Beach
Inch Beach - officially Inch Strand - is a 5 km south-facing strand stretching into Dingle Bay on the Dingle peninsula. It's one of the most famous and most photographed beaches in Ireland, featured in films from Ryan's Daughter onwards. It's also one of the most beginner-friendly surf beaches in the country.
The wave is a mellow, forgiving beach break with multiple peaks down the strand. Catching S to SW swells wrapping into the bay, it works on most tides - mid is best. Cars are typically allowed onto the beach (subject to tide and conditions). A surf school, board hire and a cafe sit at the entrance to the strand.
Inch Reef, just offshore, is a separate spot that draws experienced surfers on bigger swells.
Hazards & Notes
- If driving on the beach - mind the tide, cars do get stuck
- Strong rips can develop on bigger swells - swim between flags
- Busy with bathers and families in summer
- Cold water · proper wetsuit needed outside high summer
