About Riley's
Riley's is a world-class big-wave right-hand reef breaking under the Cliffs of Moher, a short boat ride from Doolin. It sits in the same swell zone as Aileen's - they're often surfed on the same day - but breaks as a heavy right, walling along the reef in the shadow of the cliffs.
Like Aileen's, Riley's is boat or jet-ski access only and strictly for experienced big-wave surfers with safety crew. It needs a long-period clean W swell and an E to NE offshore wind. The reef is shallow on the inside - hold-downs are heavy. If you have to ask whether you should be out here, you shouldn't be.
Hazards & Notes
- Boat / jet-ski access only - no paddle-in
- Shallow inside section - hold-downs are heavy
- Cliff face directly behind - currents push toward it
- Cold North Atlantic water · winter brutal
