About Killahoey
Killahoey is Dunfanaghy's Blue Flag strand - the long sandy beach running north-east from the village towards Portnablagh on the west shore of Sheephaven Bay, under Horn Head. It faces north-east out of the bay mouth, so it is fairly exposed to N swell and picks up NW groundswell wrapping round Horn Head; fairly consistent through autumn and winter, mostly flat in summer.
Works on NW to N swells with S-SW offshore winds. Mid tide is best. Beginner-friendly beach break with a surf school in the village.
