About Dumps
Dumps sits between Stoney Gap and Mossies on the west shore of the Maharees peninsula, facing almost due west into Brandon Bay. The name says what it does at size: when a W–NW groundswell hits the banks here it throws harder and hollower than the peaks either side of it.
Easterlies are offshore; the prevailing south-easterly is side-offshore and usually fine. Mid tide works best — it gets heavy and shallow towards low.
Hazards & Notes
- Heavy, dumping shorebreak at size — as the name says
- Rips along the banks on bigger swells
- Cold water year-round
